Auchencairn cemetery contains some 400 graves, none of which are of great antiquity; the earliest appear to be from the mid-19th century. However, the inscriptions on the headstones do contain a large amount of information relating to families of the local area that will be of interest to those who might be carrying out family history research.
It was contemplated that a photographic record be made of the headstones to aid that research but it has recently been discovered that this has already been done!
